Resumes aren't doing their jobs anymore because of AI. So I wrote a reset for the AI age: how to talk about AI well, how to use AI in resume creation, and how to handle AI resume checkers

The section on AI detectors flagging overly polished writing is wild. We've trained ourselves to sound professional by copying smooth, mid-length sentences—and now that same uniformity makes us look like bots.
This is a brilliant, necessary dissection of the AI-broken talent market.
You’ve hit the nail on the head: the hyper-polished, AI-generated resume is creating a "Premium on Human Imperfection."
The Anti-Perfection Signal: The irony that AI detectors penalize overly perfect, predictable language means candidates must now deliberately inject burstiness or unpredictability—a clear signal of human thought—to get past the gatekeepers. Recruiters will be searching for the "unpolished certainty" of genuine experience, not flawless prose.
Shifting the Focus to Judgment: The ultimate test is no longer what tools they used, but how they thought when using them. The resume must now prove the candidate's judgment, critical awareness, and accountability when integrating AI, as those are the qualities the machine cannot replicate.
In the Age of AI, the resume's true purpose is to demonstrate the one thing the AI cannot: The unique, traceable path of human decision-making and genuine cognitive process. Excellent guide!
This is an incredibly thorough and practical guide. The role-specific examples and clear frameworks make the AI resume writing approachable while setting a high standard, truly valuable work.
The timing of this post couldn't be better. I have a presentation this Tuesday for fresh engineering graduates specifically on 'AI in the Job Search,' and this article articulates points that I was struggling to summarize. I will definitely be sharing this link with the class and encouraging them to subscribe for more. Thank you for publishing such high-value content for free; it’s a huge help for educators like myself.
Thank you Nate, for this one and all the other material you produce. They are very helpful.
One thing I find distinctive with your newsletter is the podcast.
Like probably a lot of people, I'm subscribed to quite a few newsletter. Most time I save them (substack save) to read later but with the AI firehose that almost never happens, even the ones I pay.
With yours it reminds me the atomic habit (I believe its in there) the que is ... while I'm listening to Nate's video/podcast I will follow with reading the newsletter.
Its so evident that one of the main differentiators with an AI is the human capacity to absorb so much .... I dont have that much capacity for everything I would like to read and learn. I reckon that could be a trap in itself because uncheck I could be allocating the limited bandwith to collecting than processing.
I loved the recent video with Elsa Hoonason. You are very good with monologues but its fun as well when you have had someone else on video
Keep the good work and truly grateful with your work

Thanks for the reminder Nate. Competent but quiet doesn't work in our age, where noise pollution buffers our signal
I'm interested in learning about the AI Engineering marketplace you described.

AI experience flex is a boring, concrete line like shipped X with Y model, cut Z by 30%, here’s what broke, not “played with GPT”.

I recently made a talk around this topic and interesting questions at the end about ethical use on both sides: https://community.mindstone.com/annotate/article_B0sZ9YOHEH8UTVwBWL
